question 1: what is the person's astrological sign?
question 2: what is the element of the sign? (earth, air, fire, water)
question 3: how old is the person in question?
question 4: was this person born on a cusp?
court cards appear in readings, and represent people we know. most of the time in a reading, when a court card appears, it's easy to get to the bottom of who the person is.
SWORDS--Air signs: Aquarius, Gemini, Libra
WANDS--Fire signs: Leo, Aries, Saggitarius (i probably spelled that wrong. woops!)
PENTACLES (COINS)--Earth signs: Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo
CUPS--Water signs: Scorpio, Pisces, Cancer
Age: Pages are typically children. they, in a few words, often represent innocence and early discovery...seing things from a "younger" or "fresher" point of view. it can also suggest immaturity in how a person is acting, depending on the situation. when they are about 18, they progress to
Knights, who are approximately aged 18-30. Knights are active, and usually represent aggressive activity in one of the four "departments:" emotion (water), fire (raw energy), air (what is intellectual and very active), and what is material (earth).
Queens represent female energy...a female aged 30 or over.
Kings are strong male energy..representing a male aged 30 or older.
What is a cusp? in a few words, it is when a person is born within one week of the next sign..before or after.
for example, my son was born on January 18th. that puts him right in between two signs: Capricorn and Aquarius. his age puts him in the Page category, so he would carry both Page of Pentacles and Page of Swords.
when we put the elements together, it becomes obvious of the effects that earth and air interact. we can ask ourselves what happens when the two elements mix?
water eliminates fire.
water erodes earth.
water exists in the air, and in the living things on the planet.
i know a person who was born on August 23. that is the very last day in Virgo, before it turns into Leo. Virgo's element is Earth; Leo's is Fire.
Earth and Fire...how do these two elements affect each other? this person would have two court cards..King of Pentacles, or Coins being the dominant court card, and King of Wands being the "other half." this is why knowing if a cusp is present can be very helpful.
these are just a few examples of how the court cards can relate to a person...there are so many examples. i encourage you to think, on your own, about how your element affects the element of someone you know, and see how it works on that person. never abusing power, of course.
Tarot should never be used for that purpose.
if you're a Picses and are aged 35, your court card would be King of Cups.
knowing your court card and the court cards of people you care for...being able to indentify the court cards by others, enhances a reading and most of the time, since court cards normally represent people, can give a very direct answer. . .depending on the question...or situation presented.
